Fan Of The Month - March 2025

BRIT

1.  When did you first become a fan of Dashboard Confessional?
Oooh must’ve been around 2000 or 2001 - I grew up in WPB, FL where the beloved CC ran about town. I didn’t know it at the time, but when I walked into Ray’s Downtown Blues for that first “big” show it would be history for Dashboard Confessional. The big kind of history. The music scene around there was kinda small and kinda big at the same time - a lot of us kind of hated where we were but we loved seeing people succeed and it was incredible when MTV unplugged came out just a couple short years later and people across the nation were falling in love with Dashboard’s artistry. I got to see Dashboard a few times in those early years in small intimate venues and again for the first time in about 20 years last year. It was amazing.

2.  How has Dashboard Confessional affected your life?
I did hit on this above, a little bit, but DC was a huge part of my formative years as a teen. I was a bit younger than most of the college kids around but they brought me to places like FAU and this little spot in Pompano Beach to see acts like DC and New Found Glory and of course FSF, as well. The honesty and raw emotion of Dashboard really resonated with me - and still does. I have a Swiss Army Romance inspired tattoo in my collection of work because it remains one of my favorite albums to this day. Then For All the Truth That I Can Tell came out in a tumultuous time (for most of us, I think) and I really needed that same raw honesty that Chris does so well. It reminded me so much of my past while being grown and relevant in a new way, it was moving.

3.  If you have attended a Dashboard Confessional concert - what was it like for you?

Incredible - from the first to the most recent. Both very different considering the age difference for all us between my shows but I love the juxtaposition of seeing DC in a tiny, stinky, carpeted hole shoulder to shoulder with local “kids” and then 20 years later as an adult in my late 30s. I did get to be “front row” for the 2024 show and that’s a first for me, so I was dazzled. I will say though - I’m so glad to have the memory of the tiny venue shoved in the corner.

4.  Any suggestions for what we can do/set up for Saints & Sailors Fan Club?
I love the addition of (or my discovery of) the forum. I think it’s hard to get those off the ground in this day and age with how “connected” everyone is elsewhere, but I’ve engaged with it a few times and it’s been nice. The streams/calls is unique and I love that you’re able to do those for fans as well. Do you all do anything like a fan club vote to choose a song or something for a set list? That might be fun.

5.  If you could give Dashboard Confessional a message - what would it be?
Thanks so much for channeling so much of yourself into your art. It’s a gift for so many, as difficult as it may be to put pieces of yourself out into the universe for others to do with as they will. I’m sure you love it, but I’m sure it can be challenging as well! Keep fighting the good fight!
