Fan Of The Month - June 2023

1. When did you first become a fan of Dashboard Confessional?  In the fall of 2003 when I was in middle school, I saw the music video for “Hands Down” on TV. I remember thinking that I had never really heard anything like that before. I bought A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar, and I loved it so much that I ended up buying the previously released CDs as well.

2. How has Dashboard Confessional affected your life? It’s difficult to put into words how Dashboard has affected my life. Because I became a fan at such a young age, I grew up with DC. Throughout different points in my life, the songs have meant something different to me, and I love that. Being a Dashboard fan goes beyond just me, though. When I was too young to drive, I would have DC on in the car while my mom, Vicky, drove me around. One day she really listened to the music playing and said, “Wow this guy is actually pretty good”. Going to Dashboard shows has become a mother-daughter bonding experience for us - she has been to 19 DC shows with me, and we’ve traveled all over the country together, close to 20,000 miles. She has never hesitated to get in the car or hop on a plane with me for a DC show, and it’s something I cherish so much.

3. If you have attended a Dashboard Confessional concert - what was it like for you? In August of 2022, I attended my 31st Dashboard show. Each show is incredible, and it never gets old. Chris and the band make you feel like you’re part of something bigger. Even in a large crowd, I feel seen. And I have to tell you, after all these shows, after all these miles, after all these years… it still matters. It will always matter.

4. Any suggestions for what we can do/set up for Saints & Sailors Fan Club? My only suggestion so far: It would be neat to be able to see the other Fan Club members on video on the monthly chat video calls with Chris. There is a kinship among Dashboard fans, especially at live shows, so it would be neat to have some of that face-to-face with other fans in the virtual world as well.

5. If you could give Dashboard Confessional a message - what would it be? Chris, thanks for everything. Your music has been there for me throughout multiple phases of my life, and it has served as a constant that I can always count on. The live shows have given me a place to just let go and be myself. Each time we’ve had the chance to talk, you’ve just been so gracious and genuine. And thank you also for allowing my mom and I to connect over your music. Cheers to (hopefully) many more years.
