Fan Of The Month - December 2024

JAKE

1.  When did you first become a fan of Dashboard Confessional?
I first became a fan of Dashboard Confessional in the early 2000s, despite initial resistance. I encountered them through the hardcore scene and wondered, “Who is this skinny guy singing about broken hearts?” However, like many others, I was completely captivated once I sat down and actually listened to both Swiss Army and Places.

2.  How has Dashboard Confessional affected your life?
Chris’s unique way of expressing emotions has a remarkable ability to evoke a wide range of feelings within me. Beyond providing solace during my late teen heartbreaks, I believe this quality continues to be invaluable to me even now, as an ICU nurse during the pandemic and amidst the death and isolation i witnessed during those years. Tragically, my father passed away unexpectedly right at the end of the pandemic, and amidst the grief, DC stood by my side like an old friend, musically supporting me throughout the grieving process.

Even during happy moments with my wife, the songs trigger a flood of positive memories. As each album is released, I’m delighted to see how the songwriting has consistently evolved to the point that it feels like it’s evolved with me personally. It feels like a journey that I’m on with the music.

3.  If you have attended a Dashboard Confessional concert - what was it like for you?

I have attended only a total of 4 shows but each one was better than the last. Most recently I decided to splurge for the VIP on the latest tour and I had the absolute time of my life. I’m always hesitant to meet people that I look up to but Chris did not disappoint, he was so welcoming and warm.

Another favorite live dashboard moment for me was a tour in 2016 when I yelled out for The Moon Is Down and he said “ok I’m gonna play it because there’s always that one guy who bothers me to play this.”

4.  Any suggestions for what we can do/set up for Saints & Sailors Fan Club?
Perhaps you could create a more active forum by making some modifications to facilitate easier less clunky experience by having to go through the website only. A transition to a private Discord channel could be an interesting option. I appreciate you taking my suggestion for the fan pins. Any club-exclusive merchandise is always a welcome addition.

5.  If you could give Dashboard Confessional a message - what would it be?
Nothing he hasn’t heard a million times, just thank you. Thank you for always being there for me on the other end of those headphones and know that you really do make a real connection with countless people all over the world just by pouring your heart out into those lyrics and strumming your guitar. Also, Scott, you are an all time emo legend and The Promise Ring were amazing.
